NoNewTransitTax.com (formerly TransitAccountability.com) is operated by the Committee for Affordable Bay Area Transit Sponsored by Contra Costa Taxpayers Association (FPPC ID# 1492758), a California nonprofit committee formed to oppose the Bay Area regional transit ballot measure. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect from our website visitors, how we use it and your rights regarding that information.
2. Information We Collect
We only collect information that you voluntarily provide to us. When you fill out the "Join the campaign" form on our website, we collect the details you enter. This includes your:
- Full name
- Email address
- City
- Volunteer preferences (e.g., reserving a lawn sign, contributing research)
- Any optional message or comments you include
Donations: We use Stripe to process financial contributions. When you choose to donate, you may be redirected to a secure checkout page hosted by Stripe. Stripe collects your transaction data, which may include your name, email address, billing address, payment method details (such as your credit or debit card number) and the donation amount. To comply with California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) regulations, we also require you to provide your employer and occupation during the checkout process. We do not store your full credit card number on our servers, but we do receive transaction records from Stripe.
Our website hosting platform may also automatically collect basic, non-personally identifiable technical information required for the site to function properly, such as your IP address and browser type.
3. How We Use Your Information
The information you submit is used strictly to:
- Process your donations and maintain financial records.
- Respond to your questions or comments.
- Send you updates regarding the transit measure and our campaign efforts.
- Coordinate volunteer activities across the five counties.
- Fulfill requests, such as delivering lawn signs.
- Comply with state campaign finance laws.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to third party marketing organizations. Your data is kept internal to our campaign organizing team, with the following exceptions:
- Payment Processing: Data shared with Stripe to process your donation may be further used by Stripe, including to prevent fraud and meet regulatory requirements. For more information on how they handle your data, please review Stripe's privacy policy.
- Campaign Finance Disclosure: Because we accept political contributions, we are subject to California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) regulations. The Political Reform Act requires committees to file campaign statements disclosing contributions received, and these documents are made available to the public.
5. Reviewing and Changing Your Information
You have the right to review, update or request the deletion of the personal information you have provided to us. To make a change to your information or to ask to be removed from our mailing lists, please email us at info@cocotax.org.
6. Do Not Track Signals
Some web browsers have a "Do Not Track" feature that signals to websites that you do not want your online activity tracked. Our website currently does not respond to Do Not Track signals.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our campaign grows or if our data collection practices change. If we make material changes, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
